    A Guide To Effectively Migrate To The Cloud

    Throughout Thailand, organizations of all kinds are making the shift from traditional data centers to the cloud. With different cloud providers in the country, their goal is to ensure that organizations can fully embrace today’s most powerful computing trends and excel in their operations. These cloud providers help organizations to complete this transformation effectively and efficiently by providing the cloud platforms they need. Cloud server Thailand enables organizations to see cloud adoption as a natural progression to reduce costs, secure organizations’ IT infrastructure, streamline the management of their systems and gain new capabilities. Moving to the cloud requires the following strategies to avoid security vulnerabilities, disjointed management, and ad hoc adoption patterns.

    Assess five types of risks

    Supplier risk, agility risk, security risk, compliance risk, and availability risk are the five types of risk that IT infrastructure & operations (I&O) leaders and enterprise architects must assess when setting a cloud strategy. These possible risks must be weighed in a balanced and compliant manner against the potential benefits. It is a key step to formulate specific cloud exit strategies before committing to any cloud project. This will help in reaching balanced cloud deployment decisions. To any cloud strategy process, risk management should be an integral part.

    Understand the shared responsibility model

    This is a fundamental change that cloud computing introduces and these responsibilities of the cloud provider are defined by the capabilities and features of the cloud service being offered. To get the desirable result, it’s the responsibility of customers to leverage the capabilities of the cloud service within their organization’s processes. The cloud customers need to clearly understand what is the cloud provider’s responsibility and what they may reasonably expect from their provider.

    Embrace the IT department changing role

    The IT department may adopt a role in cloud services over time. The strategy may involve a  changing role for their internal IT organization, no matter what cloud strategy I&O leaders and enterprise architects decide on. This will lead an organization to establish a cloud center of excellence, appoint a cloud architect, and set up a cloud service broker group. This broker group will liaise between cloud service providers and business stakeholders.

    Ensure the cloud strategy is in line with the business strategy

    Different organizations have different business strategies. The cloud strategy should align with and actively support the organization’s business strategy regardless of whether the organization provides business services, consumer services, or other products.

    Plan potential routes

    A cloud strategy in many organizations should plan for different possible routes to the cloud. These are;

    1. Rebuilding; It enables the use of pay-per-use cloud pricing models and elastic scalability.

     (b) Rehosting; you can move an application with minimal effort.

     (c) Refactoring; takes advantage of services such as cloud-managed databases.

    The 3 typical areas of enterprise adoption differentiate the approach

    There are three distinct areas of cloud adoption namely; adoption of cloud infrastructure (CIPS), adoption of software as a service (SaaS), and migration of current and legacy applications. I&O leaders and enterprise architects should take a holistic view that addresses the tradeoffs they must make between management and operational control when they are formulating their cloud strategy. For each application deployed to the cloud, the approach should be well evaluated.

    The main driver for the adoption is cost reduction

    Many organizations in Thailand are moving to the cloud since it’s cheaper. This is true, however, the total cost depends on the type of cloud service and the characteristics of workloads. With real cloud implementations, most organizations have gained experience and the benefits are more in speed and innovation rather than cost.

    A cloud strategy is critical in every organization and should be a concise point of view on the cloud and its role in the organization.
